Budapest Tourist Information Guide – Hungary Travel

In Budapest, tourists can stuff themselves with paprikás, gulyás, Lake Balaton pike-perch, pörkölt, halászlé, and stuffed cabbage. There are many restaurants in Budapest that serve these delicious foods. Even tourists are served with a wide variety of wonderful pastries, many of which have the similarity to Viennese pastries.

Like any other spheres, the Hungarian cuisines served in the restaurants of Budapest are a perfect fusion of the local, traditional style of cooking influenced by different cultures. As a result of which, tourists can find many restaurants which serve Asian-Hungarian cuisine which are genuinely yummy. Another more familiar thing to experiment in Budapest is “goulash soup.”

Known as the City of Spas, Budapest is richly blessed with several natural springs of thermal waters which are rich in medicinal properties. Some of the most treasured baths are of the 16th century Turkish baths, as well as the Széchenyi, the Gellért and the Lukacs.

Aquincum Museum and Roman Ruins are some of the prominent historical sites to visit. The site features an impressive ruin of the amphitheatre. The museum also has some great collection of murals, mosaic floors, a water organ and a diorama depicting the eating habits of the Roman nobility.

Apart from being capital, Budapest is an important political, commercial and cultural centre of Hungary. In 1873, Buda, Pest and Óbuda (Old Buda) were united and later in 1950, Újpest, Kispest, Nagytétény were constituted to make the modern capital of Budapest which is settled on the banks of River Danube. Buda is mostly residential and features over 20 hills on the right bank of the Danube. Pest which is on the left bank, is almost entirely flat, and mainly features administrative and commercial buildings. Budapest is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and thus attracts numerous visitors every year.

Like other European capitals, Budapest also claims to be home to some of the wonderful buildings, squares, streets and museums. The prestigious world heritage sites like Danube embankments, the Buda Castle District, Andrássy út and Heroes’ Square and the Millennium Underground Railway are wonderful sights to see. The City Park is the biggest Public Park and cultural central of Budapest. It is assumed that the green area of Budapest is the largest in the Central Europe.
